Volume 10

As the cold weather fades away, and the flowers start to bloom, we welcome the arrival of spring. This season brings with it a renewed sense of energy and hope, as we say goodbye to the winter blues and hello to longer days and warmer weather.

Of course, no celebration of spring would be complete without some spring cleaning! When I was little I thought for sure that my mother had made this up just to torture me lmbo. This is the perfect opportunity to declutter your home and get rid of any items that no longer serve a purpose. Not only will this make your home feel more organized, but it can also be a great way to give back to those in need by donating unwanted items to charity.

Finally, let's not forget about the food! Spring brings with it an abundance of fresh produce!

Some vegetables that are in season during the spring are: arugula, asparagus, beets, carrots, fresh herbs, peas and spinach.

Some fruits that are in season during the spring are: grapefruit, mangoes, lemons, strawberries and pineapples.

Take advantage of these seasonal ingredients by trying out new recipes and experimenting with different flavors.

April Happenings

(some serious and some not … it’s all about balance)

April is both Diversity Month and Autism Acceptance Month. Diversity Month is a time to celebrate and appreciate the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives that make up our society. This month encourages us to reflect on the importance of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our lives, from our workplaces to our communities.

Diversity Month was created to promote awareness and understanding of different cultures and lifestyles, to encourage inclusivity and respect, and to celebrate the unique contributions that individuals from all backgrounds bring to our world.

Autism affects one in 59 children in the United States. If you or someone you love is affected by autism, this is a great opportunity to raise awareness by getting involved in activities to give back to the community or raising money to donate to an organization dedicated to autism.

So what else is going on in April? Well first of all, it’s my birthday month!!! YAAAAAYYY! 😃We also have Easter Sunday, National Grilled Cheese Day on April 12th, Peach Cobbler Day on April 13th, Emancipation Day on April 16th, Garlic Day on April 19th and Get To Know Your Customers Day on April 20th

Diversity Month

This is a time to celebrate and appreciate the diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives that make up our society.

It's important to recognize that diversity is not just about race or ethnicity, but encompasses a broad range of identities, including gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability, and more. By embracing and valuing diversity, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society that benefits everyone.

Autism Acceptance Month

April is known for spring, flowers, and Autism Acceptance Month. This April, autism rights groups are asking schools and the media to focus on the inclusion and acceptance of those with different neurologies. This starts with the small, but significant, change from Autism Awareness to Autism Acceptance.[1]

Today, society has a greater awareness of autism than ever before. But those affected by autism often face a number of struggles throughout life, from bullying and prejudice to limited job opportunities and access to health care.

Education about the autism community is important, but advocates argue that we shouldn’t stop there. Autistic people need not just awareness, but acceptance and inclusion in order to have true support from their communities. [2]

National Grilled Cheese Day - April 12th

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. There is a National Food Day for almost everything. But I’m low key happy about this one because who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese sandwich? Unless you’re allergic to cheese, I don’t personally know anyone that doesn’t love this comfort food dish. It not only brings back memories of your childhood, you can also fancy it up for adult self lol.

“Three quarters of people who buy sliced cheese make at least one grilled cheese a month. While similar recipes are mentioned in ancient Roman texts — and, let's face it, the French have been making their famous croque monsieurs since the early 1900s — today's notion of the grilled cheese is commonly traced back to the 1920s, when Otto Frederick Rohwedder, considered "the father of sliced bread," invented a bread slicer that made distributing white bread easy and affordable.” - The History Of The Grilled Cheese Sandwich

You can use almost any kind of cheese your heart desires, but some of the best, meltiest, gooiest cheeses to use are:

●     Swiss

●     Havarti

●     Sharp Cheddar

●     Muenster

●     Provolone

●     Pepper Jack

●     And, of course, American

National Garlic Day - April 19th

See … what did I tell you? There is a food holiday for almost EVERYTHING lmbo. But again, I’m excited about this one because 9-½ times out of 10 there is garlic in what I’m cooking. Guaranteed. It’s one of the only ingredients, besides onions, that is used in every.single.cuisine. Not only does it bring amazing flavor to your dishes, it also has health benefits.

Let’s all give a hand clap for garlic!!!!!

In garlic’s humble beginnings, Old World, Egyptian, and Indian cultures were the first to use garlic in their food. Following closely behind, the Babylonians began incorporating garlic into their diets 4,500 years ago. Hopping onto the best-smelling bandwagon, 2,500 years after the Babylonians, the Chinese started using garlic. While these areas of the world have been using garlic for thousands of years, it did not reach the Americas until the 1700s. It is believed that garlic first arrived in North America with Polish, German, and Italian settlers. While this may have been the introduction of garlic to America, it did not become wildly popular in the United States until 1989, when the Soviet Union fell. Fast forward to the twenty-first century, and around two pounds of garlic are consumed each year by the average American![1]

For thousands of years, garlic was used for medicinal purposes and science is now beginning to recognize how it can be beneficial to your health. The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (circa 460-370 BC) who is known today as the “father of Western medicine” would prescribe garlic for respiratory issues, poor digestion, fatigue and parasites to name a few.

According to Medical News Today, some potential benefits of garlic are: lowering the risk of lung cancer, destroying the cells in glioblastomas, a type of deadly brain tumor, heart protection, helping with high blood pressure and high cholesterol and decreased risk of prostate cancer.

As Rachel Ray always says “If two people eat garlic, one cancels the other”, or something close to that lmbo. So here are some recipe ideas that put garlic in the forefront. Make them for either yourself or your significant other and just have the mouthwash or parsley ready afterwards:
